Misty was born and raised in Oconee County and lives on a small farm with her husband and two children. She attended Clemson University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science. She is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist. She has worked for the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) for 27 years. Her current role is as a Community Systems Health Educator and primarily works in Oconee and Pickens counties but serves all 11 of the upstate counties. Her focus is on population health thru policy, systems, and environmental changes to positively address the leading causes of death and disability in the Upstate of SC. Through data analysis and community assessment, a primary focus is to work with partners to promote healthy eating, active living, chronic disease risk reduction, and smoking cessation to address chronic health issues. She serves on the Healthy Oconee Coalition as the chair of the Health Disparities and HEAL committees. She also serves as the vice-chair of the Oconee County First Steps Board. In her spare time, she enjoys preserving heirlooms in unique ways.
